All woodwind instruments are tubes with keys for the fingers and a place for your mouth to blow, but they all sound completely different.  Keys down the length of a woodwind instrument can be covered and uncovered to make different notes. The woodwind instrument sound is made by blowing across a hole for the flute, and on a reed for the clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. Woodwinds are made of wood, however most flutes are made of silver and saxophones are made of brass.
