The Bassoon which is a concert instrument changes to Tenor Saxophone for marching band.
The Oboe which is a concert instrument changes to the Alto Saxophone for marching band.
Double reed instrumentalists also have the marching bells as an option during marching season.

Your child's high school band experience will include one week of band camp sometime in August followed by one weeknight of marching band practise all before school starts. After school starts your child will continue one weeknight of marching band practise until the end of football season. There are two parades your child will march in, the first one being the Home Coming Parade in October and the second one is Memorial Day Parade in May. Pep Band is open to upperclassmen and limited underclassmen by invite only, and perform at away conference games. Band-O-Rama, the culmination of marching band season typically is in October. In late January through mid-February will be Solo & Ensemble Festival. Each student or group of students is evaluated by one judge and rated on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. Students or groups that earn a rating of 1 or  "Superior" are qualified for State Solo & Ensemble Festival which is held in March. During the month of March will be Band Festival which is an opportunity for ensembles from member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication*. Each group is evaluated by three performance judges and one sight-reading judge. Ensembles are rated on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. Ensembles that earn an overall 1 rating or "Superior" are qualified for State Band & Orchestra Festival which is held in late April or early May. Sometime in December will be Livingston County Honors Band Auditions which is open to all bands. In between all of the above will be concerts; Holiday Concert in December, Pre-Festival Concert in February, Fine Arts Concert in May and the Finale Concert t the end of May.

Please keep in mind every school band director conducts their curriculum differently and your band student should receive a current school band book at registration day for band camp. Some parents will schedule their vacation days around the bands schedule of events.
